Florida State Facing Hefty Penalty For Field Storming After Alabama Win

No good deed goes unpunished and neither does an incident of field storming in college football. After today's epic win over Alabama, Florida State's passionate fans stormed the field and the athletic department is going to pay for it.

In one of the bigger stunners of the 2025 college football season and probably the biggest in college football since Vanderbilt stunned 'Bama last year, Florida State knocked off the No. 8 Crimson Tide in a 31-17 thriller. Even if it's not the biggest win in recent memory, it's certainly the biggest win for Florida State in that span.

Following last year's 2-10 season, the Seminoles entered the game as 13.5-point underdogs despite being in their own home. It was easy to see why.

Despite going 9-4 the year before, Alabama had one of the best wideouts in football in Ryan Williams and yet another superb recruiting class that had everyone buzzing about their improvements.

Then the game unfolded and everyone's preconceived notions of what the two teams are were shattered. Florida State's two new coordinators, Gus Malzahn and Tony White, conducted a masterclass on offense and defense respectively. The offense inflicted death by a thousand papercuts and made numerous big plays while White's defense prevented Alabama from doing the same to the Seminoles.

So when the clock struck zero on their victory, the 'Noles fans at Doak Campbell Stadium rushed onto the field to celebrate with their players.

The Punishment

Unfortunately, in allowing that to happen, Florida State will face some costly fines by the ACC. According to Matt Stahl of AL.com, the ACC will be sending FSU a fine letter for $50,000.

Typically, fines escalate based on prior cases of field storming, with the counter resetting after a few years. Florida State's struggles to beat ANYONE, let alone a ranked team in 2024, means that they probably don't have to worry about it.

One or two things is now true: Florida State is way better everyone thought and Alabama is not nearly as good as everyone thought.
