Florida State Lands Play-Making Wide Receiver Transfer from Michigan State

The Florida State Seminoles wide receiver room got a little deeper on Tuesday. After losing wide receiver Mycah Pittman to Utah earlier this month, the 'Noles added another player out of the 2023 NCAA Transfer Portal cycle that has been a tumultuous one for many teams. Having the 5th-ranked transfer class in 2023, FSU has brought in talent across the board. 

The newest addition to the roster is Michigan State's top wide receiver, Keon Coleman, who announced his intentions to commit to Florida State over Ole Miss on Wednesday afternoon.

After entering the portal in late April, Coleman took an official visit to Tallahassee where he was able to interact with multiple coaches that recruited him back in high school including head coach Mike Norvell, wide receivers coach Ron Dugans, and running backs coach David Johnson. Days after his trip to Florida State, Coleman also traveled to Ole Miss for another official visit.

While this addition may be viewed as a luxury for the Seminoles, Coleman is a legitimate threat alongside Johnny Wilson and Kentron Poitier. Coleman is a long receiver with a big catch radius and deep-threat ability who can stretch the field vertically while using his size to box out opposing defenders. His biggest asset is his length and having played multiple sports, his raw athleticism and ability to get into the air gives him an advantage to leap over defensive backs while using sure hands to come down with the ball. 

Coleman is a former four-star recruit from Opelousas Catholic School in Opelousas, Lousiana, who committed to Michigan State in the 2021 class. He's listed as 6-foot-4 and 215 lbs on the Spartans' roster and will add another big-bodied receiver to complement the current wide receiver room. Before committing to the Spartans, FSU was heavily involved in his recruitment. 

During his two years with the Spartans, Coleman played in 22 games while starting in 12. The two-sport athlete has 65 career catches for 848 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished the 2022 season ranked 8th among Big Ten receivers in receptions with 58, sixth in receiving yards with 798, and sixth in receiving touchdowns with seven. Coleman also played basketball at Michigan State during the 2021 spring semester, participating in six games, recording five points and ten steals. 

Following the official addition of Destyn Hill last week, Florida State has the ability to field a dangerous passing attack with a plethora of wide receivers who are talented in different ways.
