Florida State names Jordan Travis starting QB for game vs. Notre Dame

The Florida State Seminoles will have a new starting quarterback for the third time in four games.

As ESPN's Andrea Adelson explained, Florida State coach Mike Norvell confirmed on Monday that redshirt sophomore Jordan Travis will start under center for Saturday's showdown with No. 5 Notre Dame.

Travis replaced Tate Rodemaker when FSU was trailing Jacksonville State 14-0 last Saturday and guided the Seminoles on five straight touchdown drives en route to a convincing 41-24 win. Travis completed 12 of 17 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 48 yards and a score.

"Jordan, through that performance and the work that he's put in, has established himself for the start this week and the opportunity to go out there and play the game the way he's capable of playing," Norvell told media members.

"I'm excited about him being able to assume that role this week and go make the most of it."

While Travis was still recovering from unspecified injuries, Norvell appointed James Blackman as the team's starting QB for the season opener against Georgia Tech. Following back-to-back losses, including a humiliating 52-10 defeat to rival Miami, Norvell turned to Rodemaker.

Norvell added that Travis took roughly 20 snaps during midweek practice sessions ahead of the game against Jacksonville State.

"I'm just trying to have fun," Travis said after the win, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "It was a special feeling for sure. The main goal is to get better throwing the ball. Just have to keep working."

Running back Lawrance Toafili rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on Saturday and was subsequently named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week.
