Remember Florida State?

You know, the team that dominated Alabama several weeks ago? It followed that up with a 77-3 win over East Texas A&M, and then it got two weeks off. Now it gets another light and breezy game before dealing with Virginia next Friday.

But all eyes are on what’s coming after that, with a showdown against Miami sure to be one of the games of the year as long as there’s no problem with the Cavaliers next week.

First, FSU has to get everything as tuned up as possible against Kent State.

The Golden Flashes got hammered by Texas Tech, played surprisingly well in a 31-28 loss to Buffalo, and now they get to make a little cash before making even more at Oklahoma in two weeks.

Why Kent State Will Win

No, they don’t have the lines to hold up, and they’ll have a long day as long as Florida State brings the focus, but they have enough of a passing game to push the Seminole secondary at least a little bit.

It’s been a rough several years for the Golden Flashes, but they’re starting to find a few playmakers. Quarterback Dru DeShields has been solid so far, throwing for over 500 yards with four touchdowns and no picks, hitting enough big passes to open up the attack.

Why Florida State Will Win

Kent State doesn’t have any sort of a pass rush to bother Tommy Castellanos and the Florida State backfield. There’s no need to do anything crazy in this. Hand the ball off at least 50 times, let the offensive line go to work, repeat.

The FSU passing game leads the nation, averaging close to 21 yards per pass. In this, though, the midrange passes will be the early key.

This is the game to go to work before what’s coming next. Get the timing down, get up fast, and then run it the rest of the way, so …

Kent State will have a little bit of early success, but the Seminoles will be balanced, efficient, and explosive for the third straight game.

The backups will take over in the second half and keep the scoring rolling, but Kent State will come up with a few points with its passing game connecting a bit in the second half.
