One of the more notable Texas Longhorns transfer portal departures during this cycle is apparently on the move again.
247 Sports' Scott Eklund reported on Tuesday night that former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II has parted ways with Washington. This comes just a few weeks after Cook transferred to the Big Ten program, already leading to speculation of this being a dismissal for the wideout.
A highly touted five-star prospect out of DeSoto, TX, Cook signed with Texas as part of its 2023 recruiting class. Through two seasons, the speedy wideout made a marginal impact for the Longhorns, catching 16 targets for 273 yards and two touchdowns through 20 games.
News broke on November 7 that Cook was no longer part of the Longhorns program and both Anwar Richardson and Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods later described it as a dismissal. He'd officially jump into the transfer portal on December 9 and officially landed in Seattle with Washington just a few weeks later.
The former UT wideout is now on the search for a new home yet again and given his abrupt departures from two programs within the span of a few months, one has to wonder if another Power 4 program will bring him in considering the baggage behind the scenes.
As a recruit, he held offers from the likes of Michigan, Oregon, and Alabama.
