A former All-Big 12 defender is on the move after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday.
College football players have the opportunity to entertain scholarship and NIL opportunities elsewhere before Friday's deadline marks the end of the spring transfer window.
Head coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 transfer cycle, hauling in the nation's top class to date (247Sports).
However, rising redshirt junior EDGE Joseph Adedire has entered his name to the transfer portal after spending the last three seasons at Texas Tech, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
Adedire originally flipped from TCU to the Red Raiders as a three-star recruit out of Arlington, Texas, in the class of 2022.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound outside linebacker was the only true freshman to appear in more than four games for Texas Tech. He totaled 19 tackles (4 for loss) with a sack in 12 games, earning an All-Big 12 honorable mention.
Adedire went on to log eight starts as a sophomore in 12 appearances, recording 25 tackles (4 for loss) with a sack and a pass breakup.
A preseason injury kept Adedire off the field for his entire junior season, making him eligible for a medical redshirt. He will have two years of eligibly moving forward.
For Texas Tech, the efforts of McGuire, general manager James Blanchard and NIL collective founder Cody Campbell have stockpiled the talent that could make up for the loss of Adedire.
The Red Raiders landed two of the top transfer pass rushers in former Sanford EDGE David Bailey and former Georgia Tech EDGE Romello Height.
The spring transfer window will close on Friday, and Texas Tech will begin preparations for the 2025 season opener at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Aug. 30.
