After a brief stint with Butler Community College in Kansas, a former Badgers wide receiver from the University of Wisconsin football program is back on the Division One radar.

Markus Allen, who initially joined the Wisconsin football program as a four-star recruit under Paul Chryst in the 2021 recruiting class, earned an offer from South Alabama head coach Major Applewhite during a visit.

During his redshirt season with the Wisconsin football team, Allen played in two games for the Badgers, catching three passes for 65 yards. In his second season with the program, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound wideout hauled in seven passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in six games before hitting the portal after not seeing the field against Michigan State.

Allen committed to PJ Fleck and the Minnesota Gophers before changing his mind and rejoining the Wisconsin football team under the leadership of Luke Fickell and company. He practiced as the third-team slot receiver last spring and re-entered the transfer portal in search of a fresh start.

Right now, the Ohio native also has reported scholarship offers from Akron and Youngstown State that he’s weighing this spring. Allen will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop. Talent was never the issue with the former Badgers player, so it’s nice to see Allen work his way back onto the Division One radar.
