Former Dawg Named All-XFL
USA TODAY Sports

Former Bulldogs Linebacker and current D.C. Defenders defensive lineman Davin Bellamy was recently named to the All-XFL team. The D.C. Defenders led the XFL in selections for the All-Xfl team, with seven total selections.

Bellamy is coming off an impressive season for the Defenders, racking 18 total tackles and 5.5 sacks; Bellamy has carried over into the XFL what he was doing in the USFL. Bellamy played for Georgia from 2013-2017 and was able to play under both Mark Richt and Kirby Smart while with the Bulldogs.

While at Georgia, Bellamy was a force to be reckoned with. Bellamy had 118 career total tackles, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. After a stellar Bulldogs career that saw him lead his team to the National Championship game in 2017, Bellamy declared for the NFL draft and was eventually signed by the Houston Texans as a UDFA.

Bellamy spent a few years in the NFL but was only on practice squads and off-season rosters with five different teams (Texans, L.A. Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers). Not seeing much of a future in the NFL at that point in time, Bellamy entered his name into the inaugural USFL draft. Betting on himself paid off well because Bellamy was not only the first pick in the second round of this draft, but he was also the first defender taken off the board when he was selected by the New Orleans Breakers.

Bellamy had an outstanding year with the Breakers, earning himself an All-USFL defensive team nod and multiple hot mics that had USFL fans falling in love with him. After the season, Bellamy was selected in the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft, which is when the XFL chooses players who are free agents to join their league and fill out the team's rosters leading into camp.

On top of his All-XFL team selection, Bellamy has once again led a team to the championship game. The former Bulldog and the D.C. Defenders will face off against the Arlington Renegades for the XFL Championship on May 13th at 8:00 p.m. EST. on ESPN.
