The SMU Mustangs made the best of their opponents as part of the 12-team College Football Playoff last year. They look to build off an 11-3 finish going into year two of ACC play.

Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings had his moments in 2024, but he's expected to take a step forward with spring practices coming to a close. His efforts caught the attention of former ESPN analyst David Pollack, who believes Jennings will turn heads this year.

While he's haunted by bad moments, there's still tremendous upside with Jennings' overall game

When you watch Jennings, the things he can do are special, Pollack said on his podcast. "As I tried to go down the list, that's what started to separate, like who has the special. Jennings has the 'my feet aren't even set and just rip it'. Jennings has the 'I can make anybody miss.'"

Jennings was a top 20 passer with 3,245 yards and 23 touchdowns. He'll work on the mistakes following 11 interceptions last year. But when you break down his film, there were only two games where he was out of his element. An overtime win at Duke and a loss to Penn State in the Playoff. He also accounted for 354 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

SMU opens the 2025 season against East Texas A&M on August 30.
