Shedeur Sanders arrived in Cleveland on Tuesday and looks to get a head start before rookie mini camp. The transition for the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback will make headlines after the historic slide in the 2025 NFL Draft. After going from a top ten pick to a fifth-rounder doesn't guarantee he'll make an impact in the league.
As many analysts breakdown why Sanders took a massive hit during the lead-up to the draft, Bomani Jones shared his thoughts about the situation. The former ESPN commentator says Deion Sanders was being fed bad information about Shedeur's draft stock and relied on his status instead of guiding him in the right direction.
Did Deion hurt Shedeur’s draft stock?

“Deion got bad information … [Shedeur] wasn’t good enough to have that leverage.” pic.twitter.com/08LazSOWwT
"What is very clear to me is that Deion misjudged what kind of leverage his son had," Jones said on his podcast. "He got bad information. I think his son was operating on the principle that my daddy knows everything. My daddy knows this league and my daddy says I'm going to be a top ten pick. So I don't have to go to all these places."
Jones referenced conversations with NFL insiders about Sanders and the way he carried himself during the draft process. The general consensus was there wasn't a good vibe.
"It was the way that you behaved when you have the leverage," Jones added. "He wasn't good enough to have that leverage. Again, some of us were telling you that as a talent there were shortcomings and didn't have the physical strength NFL teams were looking for. We told you this."
Sanders was a Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by Cleveland picking him up with the 144th overall pick. He was originally projected as a first-rounder, but his draft stock took a massive hit after skipping workout drills at the East-West Shrine Game, Big 12 Pro Day, and NFL Combine.
Sanders' dramatic drop contributed to a massive television ratings boost for the 2025 NFL Draft. The numbers from Friday night's coverage (Rounds 2 & 3) averaged 7.4 million viewers, up 40 percent from 2024 according to Nielsen. That ranks second all-time for Day 2 draft coverage behind the 8.2 million viewers in 2020.
