Former Florida State RB takes first Official Visit since entering NCAA Transfer Portal
USA TODAY Sports

The Seminoles lost a talented piece out of the backfield earlier this week when former star running back Treshaun Ward elected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. With so many options in the backfield, Florida State simply couldn't guarantee Ward the number of touches he wants to showcase himself for a future professional career.

After earning early interest from programs such as Kansas State, Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech, the former walk-on turned standout is already heavily exploring his options.

On Thursday, Ward arrived at Kansas State for an Official Visit, according to his Instagram.

The Wildcats make sense as a potential fit after fielding one of the top running backs in the country in 2022. Deuce Vaughn elected to forego his final season of collegiate eligibility after totaling 293 rushes for 1,558 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 378 yards and three more scores.

That means there's an opening for Ward to slide into at Kansas State. If he's looking for 15 to 20 touches a game to boost his draft stack, the Wildcats' high-powered attack could be a match.

The Florida native led Florida State's rushing attack in the Cheez-It Bowl victory against Oklahoma, recording 10 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns. In total, he capped off the season with 95 rushes for 628 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught six passes for 19 yards. Ward was second on the team in rushing behind Trey Benson.

It remains to be seen if Ward will take other visits. It's expected that he'll have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Outside of Ward, the Seminoles are anticipated to return the majority of the production in the backfield in 2023. The current running backs on the roster include Benson, Lawrance Toafili, Caziah Holmes, CJ Campbell, and Rodney Hill. FSU signed four-star Samuel Singleton from the high school ranks.
