Former Georgia Bulldog star has received very little NFL free agency interest for a reason that is unfortunately completely out of his control

The 2024 season was a disastrous one for former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb. He was coming back from a left knee injury that cost him the majority of the previous season, only allowing him to play in two games. A broken foot limited him to just eight games this past fall as well.

His final season with the Browns was by far Chubb’s worst. He rushed for just 332 and three touchdowns on 102, a 3.3 yard per carry average. Despite that horrible season, Chubb still maintains a 5.1 yard per carry average, and has been selected to four Pro Bowls.

For years, Browns have marveled at the physical talent that Chubb brings to the table. The team originally selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, an injury value at the time for Cleveland. During his seven years with the team, Chubb finished with 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns. He also added another 1,042 yards and five scores as a receiver.

Even while dealing with some injuries while a member of the Georgia Bulldogs, Chubb left as one of the very best running backs the school had ever had. He finished his four seasons with 4,769 yards and 48 total touchdowns. Chubb did all that despite sharing touches with Sony Michel during that span.

Unfortunately for Chubb, he is the reason why some running backs continue to be undervalued. At just 29 years old, there is a strong possibility that retirement could be on the horizon for Chubb. He plays a very physically demanding position with an extremely short shelf life.

There has been very little demand for Chubb thus far in free agency. The injuries, on top of his age and regression as a player, has led to a very limited market. There’s a good chance an NFL team eventually signs Chubb to a short-team deal with limited risk involved, but the best days of Nick Chubb are firmly behind us.
