Former Mississippi State QB Believes Bulldogs Could Have Made It to College Football Playoff if One Former Coach Had Stayed

Nick Fitzgerald, Mississippi State's former quarterback from 2015-2018, believes the turnout of the 2018 season could have had different turnout if head coach Dan Mullen stayed.

"Do I think if he would have stayed in 2018, we would have had a real shot, absolutely," Fitzgerald said. "Do I think we would have won the playoffs, absolutely"?

Mullen left right after the 2017 season to return to Florida as head coach. He coached there previously 2005-2008 seasons before coming to State as the offensive coordinator. During his time as offensive coordinator, he won two SEC titles and two BCS National Championships. Mullen left State's program graciously and thanked the fans and players for his support over the years.

For players like Fitzgerald, it is devastating to lose a coach that has taught a player throughout their collegiate career. But in light of it, a true athlete is able to adapt to new coaching and still turn out successful.

This is true for Fitzgerald, because he was not only successful during his time at State but he is now playing for The Spring League Sea Lions.
