Former Ohio State Buckeyes starter is having success on the football field again even if it isn’t in the NFL

Ohio State recently had 14 players selected in the NFL Draft, with several others signing as undrafted free agents.

Every path to the NFL is different, but the Buckeyes continue to be well-represented at the highest level.

One former Buckeye is working to make his way to the NFL by first proving himself in the CFL—and he’s already seeing early success.

Former Ohio State RB Miyan Williams Finding Success with CFL’s Toronto Argonauts

In the Toronto Argonauts’ second preseason game on Saturday evening, they fell to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 24–16. Former Ohio State running back Miyan Williams scored the only touchdown for the Argonauts, punching it in on a short run.

Williams had an impressive outing, finishing with 53 rushing yards on eight carries and one touchdown. He broke off a long run of 26 yards, showing the burst he’s capable of once he hits top speed. The same burst that helped him score a total of 20 touchdowns in his college career with Ohio State.

Known for being a compact yet powerful runner, Williams stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 225 pounds. Injuries hindered his college career, limiting him to just six games as a senior. His best season came in 2022, when he rushed for 825 yards and scored 14 touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Williams was never the lone guy for the Buckeyes in the backfield but he always provided value when he got on the field.

Williams signed with the Argonauts this past winter in an effort to keep his football career alive—and so far, it looks like things are off to a promising start as the CFL regular season approaches.
