Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops has made his prediction for this weekend's matchup between the Tennessee Vols and the Kentucky Wildcats.
And, as has become the norm for Stoops, he went with his heart over logic.
Stoops is an older brother of Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops.
Mike Stoops, another of Stoops' younger brothers, serves as Kentucky's inside linebackers coach.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, of course, has his own complicated history with Stoops. Heupel was Oklahoma's starting quarterback in 2000 when the Sooners won the national championship (Stoops' only championship as a head coach).
Heupel spent nearly a decade on Oklahoma's coaching staff before he was fired by Stoops following the 2014 season. The two reportedly haven't had much a relationship since.
Stoops has been doing game day predictions on his YouTube channel for the last several years. And every year, he picks the Wildcats to beat the Vols.
This year is no exception.
"It's hard to watch to be six inches from the goal line and not be able to get it in," said Stoops of Kentucky's overtime loss to Texas last week. "So hate that for them, but they have played well and been in those games. And of course, I'm taking Kentucky (to beat Tennessee). I always do."
You never know in the SEC on a week to week basis. Anyone can truly beat anyone. But logic suggests the Vols will come out on top in this one.
By the way, Stoops, to his credit, did give fans a warning last year when he picked Kentucky to beat Tennessee.
“Well I gotta take Kentucky,” said Stoops a year ago. “Because my brother is the coach there. So if you’re betting, you better take that into consideration if you’re taking my pick.”
