The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will meet on Monday night (January 20) in the College Football Playoff championship game in Atlanta.

Ohio State advanced to the finals via their win against the Texas Longhorns while Notre Dame earned a spot in the title game thanks to their win against the Penn State Nittany Lions.

On Thursday, former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops joined KREF and he shared his prediction for the matchup between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Stoops said that he doesn't think Notre Dame's offense will be able to keep up with Ohio State's offense.

"I'm excited about this game," said Stoops. "I think they both play really good defense. I don't think Notre Dame, offensively, can keep up with Ohio State's offense. Not that they play against each other, but I just think Ohio State has more weapons, more big play people and receivers. And I think that's going to matter."

"I just think, again, both defenses are really good," continued Stoops. "And I think Ohio State, after that Michigan game, they got a big-time chip on their shoulder. And they got a lot of good players. I just think they're stronger overall than Notre Dame is. And they played, overall, a tougher schedule than Notre Dame has, in my opinion."

Stoops' prediction for the championship is almost identical to the comments that former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray made about the game this week

By the way, Stoops went a combined 1-3 against Ohio State and Notre Dame in his head coaching career. The Sooners lost 45-24 to Ohio State in Norman in 2016 (Stoops' last season). Oklahoma lost to Notre Dame in South Bend twice under Stoops, in 1999 and 2013. Stoops' lone win against the Fighting Irish came in 2012 in Norman.

Ohio State and Notre Dame will kick off at 7:30 PM ET on Monday night. The game will air on ESPN.
