The Los Angeles Rams were linked to tight ends throughout the 2025 NFL Draft process for good reason. While veteran Tyler Higbee had been a reliably decent option for years, his advancing age and drop in production from other options in 2024 exposed it as a need.
However, few expected Los Angeles to grab Terrance Ferguson as early as they did. The 46th overall pick had generally been seen as someone closer to the 100th overall selection. But, given the lack of depth in the class at the position, the Rams needed to strike earlier.
Ferguson projects well as a replacement for Higbee. His well-built frame of 6-foot-5 inches and 243 pounds is complemented by quality blocking and respectable receiving chops. He moves well for his size and is coordinated.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports believes Ferguson was the Rams' best pick.
"The Rams exuded draft prudence. They've long been one of the sharpest drafting teams in the NFL, which was overshadowed by their massive success during a time when they didn't have first-round picks. Those picks were vital to the Super Bowl victory. So were the Day 2 and Day 3 selections along the way.
And this is next in line. Terrance Ferguson was my TE2 in this class, blessed with a stellar combination of every trait and developed skill a team would want from a tight end in today's NFL. (Honorable mention: EDGE Josaiah Stewart and RB Jarquez Hunter)"
Totaling 134 receptions for 1,537 yards and 16 touchdowns over his four years, Ferguson is consistently reliable. He has a little more explosiveness than given credit for, and it's understandable why he'd be viewed as a difference-maker for an offense lacking an option in front of him.
I agree Ferguson is the team's best pick. General manager Les Snead went so far as to say this:
"Someone who is just tenacious, plays urgent, and he is going to give more effort than the next guy."
That's the type of energy this team needs, and will prove Oregon to be a proud alma mater.
