Former Red Mountain edge rusher Tre Smith signs with Arizona
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former Red Mountain and San Jose State edge rusher Tre Smith has officially signed with the Arizona Wildcats.

Smith’s transfer

The domino effect of Nick Saban’s retirement continues after almost a month.

The move impacted several college football rosters across the nation including the San Jose State Spartans.

Following the departures of former Spartans head coach Brent Brennan and defensive line coach Joe Seumalo to Arizona, Smith entered the portal and will now follow his former coaches to The Grand Canyon State.

2023 performence

As a red-shirt sophomore this past season, Smith appeared in 13 games for the Spartans.

He totaled 67 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. This season earned the Mesa native a 2023 first-team All-Mountain West selection.

With the roster changes that they have endured, this is a great addition for the Wildcats, whether he eventually starts or is a depth piece.
