Former Tennessee Vols player almost made a disastrous decision at the end of the Frisco Bowl
Chris Day/The Commercial Appeal / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Elijah Herring, who transferred from UT to Memphis after the 2024 season, nearly went viral for all the wrong reasons on Tuesday night during the Frisco Bowl.

Memphis defeated West Virginia 42-27 in the Frisco Bowl after Herring came down with a game-ending interception.

Herring, however, nearly wasted the interception when he didn't go down after picking off West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

The former Tennessee linebacker appeared to fumble during the return, but officials eventually ruled that Herring was down because he started to slide before the ball came out.

That was almost disastrous for Herring and the Tigers -- even though West Virginia still would've need a mini miracle to win the game.
