Former Tennessee Vols player taking one of the most 'intriguing' visits of the weekend
Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney thinks Tennessee Vols transfer linebacker Elijah Herring is taking one of the most intriguing visits of the weekend.

Herring, who will be a junior this fall, entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this week. He's scheduled to visit the Colorado Buffaloes this weekend.

From Rivals.com: Colorado has extensively used the transfer portal to revitalize its roster and in many cases it has worked so it will be interesting to see what kind of traction the Buffaloes get with Herring this weekend.

The former three-star linebacker led Tennessee with 80 tackles this season so he’s going to be a really hot commodity in the portal market. Coach Deion Sanders and his staff get first crack this weekend.

Because Herring entered the NCAA transfer portal during the spring window, he's not eligible to transfer to another SEC program.

Herring led the Vols in tackles last season while playing in place of BYU transfer Keenan Pili, who suffered a season-ending injury in Tennessee's season-opener against Virginia.

With Pili returning to Rocky Top in 2024, Herring was going to be pushed down the depth chart. Tennessee also has some other young linebackers that could earn playing time ahead of Herring (such as Arion Carter and Jeremiah Telander).

Penn State is also in the mix for Herring.
