Salter originally signed with the Tennessee Vols as part of the program's 2021 recruiting class.
The Texas native, however, was kicked off the team by head coach Josh Heupel ahead of the 2021 season after two separate drug-related incidents. The second incident occurred just after Salter had been reinstated to the team.
Salter transferred to Liberty after his dismissal from Tennessee. This past season, Salter passed for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions. He also rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns.
On3's Pete Nakos reported on Friday that Auburn is a program to watch for Salter, though he also noted that the young quarterback is open to other programs.
"Sources tell On3 that TCU was an early option to watch, but the Horned Frogs took Vanderbilt quarterback Ken Seals on Thursday," reported Nakos. "Auburn remains a school to watch for the Conference USA’s Most Valuable Player this past season, but sources have said he’s open to other destinations."
Landing with Auburn would reunite Salter with Hugh Freeze.
Freeze, who is currently the head coach at Auburn, was Salter's head coach at Liberty in 2021 and 2022.
