Former Texas and Nebraska QB Casey Thompson out for season at FAU, may get a seventh season

Casey Thompson is a well-traveled college football quarterback. Unfortunately, just three games into his 2023 season, the Florida Atlantic Owls have lost him for the season.

ESPN is reporting that Thompson has torn both his ACL and medial meniscus. Thompson was hurt during FAU's 48-14 loss to Clemson. He was able to complete just 7-of-12 for 49 yards and two interceptions before leaving the game with the injury.

Interestingly enough, Thompson does have the option to apply for a medical redshirt since he'll end up playing in less than 30% of FAU's season, which would give him the option to play in his seventh college football season.

Thompson was a 3-star recruit in the 2018 class who originally committed to Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns. He started 10 games from 2018 to 2021 for Texas. He competed 185-of-290 passes for 2,422 yards and 30 touchdowns (nine interceptions) while rushing 73 times for 210 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Thompson transferred to Nebraska for 2022 and completed 173-of-274 passes for 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns (10 interceptions) in 10 starts, though he dealt with injuries throughout the season. He tore his labrum and also injured his thumb.

He reunited with Herman at FAU for his sixth collegiate season. Now he may get a seventh.
