One of the more underrated performers for the LSU offense in 2024 was star tight end Mason Taylor. He quietly had 55 receptions for 546 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers. That led to Taylor eventually being a second round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
With Taylor off to the NFL, head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU staff is expecting sophomore Trey’Dez Green to become a breakout star for the offense. 247Sports college football analyst Matt Zenitz verified that hype with an Intel piece this week. According to anonymous coaches across the SEC, they also see Green having a huge 2025 season.
Here is what Zenitz wrote about Green.
Trey'Dez Green closed last season with two touchdowns in LSU's Texas Bowl win over Baylor. He's now set to build on that as a sophomore in a tight end group that includes a transfer whom the Tigers are high on, Oklahoma's Bauer Sharp. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Green ranked as the No. 2 tight endand No. 47 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.
"Athletic specimen," a source said. "Had four touchdowns on 13 catches as a freshman and was way underutilized. Can play receiver or tight end. Elite catch radius and coming into his own blocking."
If you are also a college basketball fan, you may have also seen Green on the hardwood for the Tigers. At 6-7 and 240 pounds, Green is an outstanding overall athlete. He can elevate with the best of them, showcasing explosive movement skills. His upside as a pass catcher is extremely high.
LSU returns quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, which gives a lot of confidence that Green will be a huge weapon to the middle of the field. The wide receiver room also brings in a lot of talent, including breakout 2024 star Aaron Anderson. He may be small, but Anderson is an electric playmaker.
The program also welcomed in both Nic Anderson and Barion Brown from Oklahoma and Kentucky respectively. The Transfer portal, at least on paper, was very good to this LSU squad. That many talented pass catchers should take attention off of Green, which should allow him to have a ton of 1-on-1 opportunities.
