Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Tyler Baron spent the first four seasons of his collegiate career with the Tennessee Vols.
Baron, who is from Nashville, transferred from Tennessee to Miami (he actually first transferred to Louisville and went through spring practice with the Cardinals) after the 2023 season.
A big reason why Baron transferred was so he could play in a defense where he was utilized more as an edge rusher.
"I think he (Baron) wants to go somewhere and basically play that position (edge) and try to play that position solely if he can," said Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm back in the spring. "I think he was moved around a little bit. Proving that he can be a great edge piece and rusher is what we want to try to help him do. So we're excited to get him here and you know he gives us a lot of experience."
Baron joined the Storm Sessions podcast earlier this week and he briefly commented on his time with the Vols, including the story of when he was first offered by Tennessee.
"I remember I was on a phone call with the head coach at Tennessee at the time -- Butch Jones was the head coach," said Baron. "So yeah, I had a call with him and it was kind of a surreal experience honestly. I have a video on my phone from it -- my mom was recording -- and it was kind of the start to the journey."
"That was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything," said Baron when asked about his time at Tennessee. "Just being around some of my best friends growing up [and] some guys I met in college. It was a brotherhood and I'm really thankful for that time and I appreciated it."
Baron finished his Tennessee career with 101 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks.
So far this season at Miami, Baron has totaled 33 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.
The former Vol has a good chance to be a Day 1 or Day 2 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
