The USC Trojans feature intriguing freshmen set to lead the program for the future. Except one defender is leading older players now. Rising as a big surprise early in fall camp.

True freshman Floyd Boucard is bringing new energy to the trenches. Even some teaching skills as one veteran USC defender revealed to Connor Morrissette of 247Sports Thursday morning.

"The Canadian native is brand new to college football and a member of arguably the deepest position group on USC's roster. That hasn't stopped him from making a strong early impression with his coaches and teammates though," Morrissette wrote in his report.

Redshirt sophomore Kameryn Fountain admitted to Morrissette that he's taken some tips from Boucard.

"Floyd came in and surprisingly for a younger guy, he showed me some things from a different position," Fountain said. "That came from being in the film room with him and just watching him play. There's stuff that I take from his game, and I put it into mine. He's a great freshman to have around."

Fountain isn't the only experienced Trojans defender who's leaned into the early leadership from Boucard. Deven Thompkins likes what he's seen out of the graduate from Miami Central High.

"Floyd has a great skill set," Thompkins said. "His footwork is unbelievable. He has that natural knack for the game. He hasn't missed a beat."

The three-star Boucard was offered by 47 total universities. He even grew up playing hockey in his native homeland. But USC clearly became impressed with his explosive feet and powerful hands. Landing him via the 2025 class.
