FSU QB’s Trash Talk Gives Clemson Major Motivation for November Showdown

Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is talking big this offseason — and Clemson might be the ACC team most eager to respond.

The former Boston College starter, who transferred to Florida State in December, told On3’s Pete Nakos that he “tore the ACC up by my damn self” the last two years and warned teams they wouldn’t be able to stop him now that he’s “with a squad.”

That “squad” finished 2-10 last season, the worst record at FSU since 1976. And Castellanos? He was benched at Boston College in November and left the team three days later. His career ACC record as a starter is 4-8, with 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Even worse, BC’s offense improved dramatically once he was replaced by Grayson James.

Despite those numbers, Castellanos is confident the Seminoles are a different team — and that the rest of the ACC should take notice.

“I hope people don’t think that Florida State is going to be the same team it was last year because we have weapons,” he said. “People can’t just sit back in zone coverage and watch me.”

That comment won't faze Clemson's locker room. The Tigers, boasting one of the conference's most experienced defenses, are poised for improved numbers this year under new defensive coordinator Tom Allen.

They'll have their chance to make a definitive statement on November 8th when FSU visits Death Valley, especially after their tough overtime loss to a strong Florida State team that claimed victory in Death Valley in 2023.

While Castellanos was firing off bold proclamations, Clemson has kept its head down, continuing to develop under quarterback Cade Klubnik and coordinator Garrett Riley.

Clemson has won seven of the last nine matchups against Florida State, and if Castellanos wants to “tear up” the ACC again, he’ll have to go through a defense that may be the best he’s faced.

Boston College DB Cameron Martinez added fuel to the fire, posting on social media: “Mmm that ain’t how I remember it.” Even South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers chimed in after Castellanos took a shot at Alabama, saying: “That’s still Alabama… They’re big, strong, and fast. That’s still SEC ball.”
