Kirby Smart continues to help the Georgia Bulldogs compete for a national title year after year.

Smart is widely regarded as one of the top head coaches college football and it gets even clearer by the season.

In 2025, Georgia has been led by Gunner Stockton. He's emerged as one of the top players in college football, much like the Bulldogs' previous signal-callers, Carson Beck and Stetson Bennett.

On Tuesday, Stockton was recognized as a semi-finalist for the Maxwell Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football.

"Gunner Stockton has been named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award," posted the official social media account of the Georgia Bulldogs football team.

Several other players who appeared on the semi-finalist list for the Maxwell Award include the following: Ty Simpson, Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith and Emmett Johnson.

Gunner Stockton is currently in his first year as the full-time starting quarterback at Georgia.

Kirby Smart thrust Stockton into the starting role late last season when Carson Beck went down with an injury for the Bulldogs. Stockton has since been leading the offense, alongside several talented players on the offensive end such as, Zachariah Branch and Nate Frazier.

Throughout the 2025 season with the Georgia Bulldogs, Gunner Stockton has posted 15 touchdowns and 2,040 yards with a 69.4 completion percentage.

The news on the Maxwell Award was announced before Georgia's game against the Texas Longhorns in Week 12 of the college football season.
