Georgia football is “sitting pretty” as head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs staff earn a distinguished recruiting honor

Head coach Kirby Smart has set an unbelievable recruiting standard since taking over the Georgia Bulldog program nearly a decade ago. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Bulldogs have managed to be so successful on the field when you consider the talent they have consistently been adding. They are always right near, if not at the very top of the class rankings every year.

The month of July ended up being a massive recruiting period for Georgia, who were able to gain four new commitments in the 2026 class. That includes landing five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro, who is one of the very best pass catchers in the entire country. The Bulldogs managed to double down at tight end with Brayden Fogle, while also reeling in defensive lineman Valdin Sone and linebacker Nick Abrams.

Those efforts from the Bulldogs staff were able to earn them a place on Rivals’ list of the top ten recruiting winners from the month of July. The crazy part about the list from national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney is that it still wasn’t a perfect month for Georgia. That puts into context how high the expectations are on the Bulldog staff.

Here is what Gorney had to say about Georgia’s efforts this past month.

Georgia

The Bulldogs were one of the biggest recruiting winners in June and while July was not quite up to that measure it was still a very productive month for coach Kirby Smart and his team. Five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro was the headliner and then four-star TE Brayden Fogle, four-star DL Valdin Sone, four-star LB Nick Abrams and four-star safety Tyriq Green are all impactful players. There were some misses as well, mainly five-star LB Tyler Atkinson among others, but Georgia is sitting pretty with the second-best class nationally.

As of today, Georgia currently holds the top recruiting class in 2026 according to 247Sports. The Bulldogs hold a commitment from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, who is arguably the top overall player in the entire class. He is one of the seven players in the class that currently rank inside of the top 100 overall players nationally. The 31-man class has a chance to be the very best under Coach Smart when all is said and done.

With it only being August, there are still four months until National Signing Day. A lot can change between now and then, with the possibility to both lose and gain some great players. If the history of Georgia football under Coach Smart has shown us anything, the odds are in Coach Smart’s favor to get even better.
