Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young returned to practice this week following his Oct. 8 arrest on battery and assault charges.
"The Title IX office at UGA cleared Colbie so he was allowed to return to the team activities, including practice," Young's attorney, Kim Stephens, told ESPN. "We expect and hope that the prosecutors will follow the Title IX office's lead and dismiss the charges against Mr. Young in the very near future."
While Young's return to practice is a good sign that the case could be dismissed sooner rather than later, head coach Kirby Smart doesn't want fans to get too excited just yet because the legal process is not over.
"Yeah, I'm sure you guys have got a lot of questions about the Colbie Young situation. I respect that and understand it, but it's still a pending legal matter," Smart said Tuesday. "So Colbie's competition status hasn't changed, and we don't have any timelines or really expectations on this process. He is back practicing with us and using the facilities. But that's all I can really comment on that. Any questions about practice or what we got going on, I'd be glad to answer."
Young has an arraignment scheduled in Athens on Dec. 10, which could reveal new information and overall resolve the case.
Until then, however, Young will be putting in the work and be ready for when his name is cleared and he can officially suit up for the Dawgs once again.
