Georgia HC Kirby Smart rips SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey for Bulldogs' tough 2024 schedule

Georgia's SEC Championship win over Texas came with an additional prize: a first round bye in the College Football Playoffs.

And Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart had the perfect answer when asked about what this means for him and the team.

He even used the opportunity to take a shot at one person in particular.

"It means rest for a team that Greg Sankey and his staff sent on the road all year long," he said. "We get to take a little bit of a break and get ready for College Football Playoffs. This team needs some rest mentally, needs a little time off.”

As he was saying this, the cameras panned over to Sankey, the Commissioner of the SEC, and he was clearly not happy about being called out like this.

This season, Georgia had four games on the road, all of which were insanely tough. They narrowly got passed Kentucky, followed by a loss to No. 4 Alabama the following week. They then traveled to take on No. 1 Texas in October, and finally finished up with a trip to No. 16 Ole Miss at the beginning of November.

With the bye, Georgia won't be back on the field until New Years Day. So that gives them plenty of time to rest up.

Despite all the adversity, including the very tough road schedule, Georgia overcame it all and defeated Texas, 22-19, in overtime on Saturday night. S

o, with his few moments in front of the microphone, Smart sent a clear message: Don't mess with Georgia.
