The 1981 Sugar Bowl rematch is officially set. On Friday night, the No. 7-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish triumphed over the No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers, securing their spot in the second round of the College Football Playoff. They will now face the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in next week’s Sugar Bowl.
The last time these two teams met in the Sugar Bowl was on Jan. 1, 1981, when Georgia, led by the legendary Herschel Walker, claimed the national championship.
Now, over 40 years later, these two historic programs are set to meet again, this time with a trip to the semifinals on the line. Although the game is still a week away, Georgia wasted no time posting a brief yet powerful three-word message to set the stage for what promises to be an exciting showdown.
"We meet again. #GoDawgs." Georgia posted on Saturday.

With both teams firmly focused on a path to the national championship, they’ll have to go through one another to reach the next stage. However, the Bulldogs will be without star quarterback Carson Beck, who is expected to miss the College Football Playoff after suffering a shoulder injury in the SEC Championship Game against Texas.
As a result, Gunnar Stockton will step in as the starting quarterback. Stockton showed promise during a brief stint against Texas, but now the spotlight will be fully on him in a neutral-site matchup against a formidable Notre Dame defense, with a trip to the semifinals on the line.
