The Georgia Bulldogs begin spring practice on Tuesday, and head coach Kirby Smart shared some early news that should excite UGA faithful.
Offensive issues ran rampant last season, as Georgia finished 38th in scoring offense and 51st in total offense after finishing top-five in both categories the previous year.
Perhaps the most glaring inconsistency came at wide receiver, a group that led the FBS in drops. And the Bulldogs were without talented wideout Colbie Young for the majority of the season due to suspension.
Young (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) began his career in the JUCO ranks at Lackawanna College before transferring to Miami in 2022. He spent two seasons with the Hurricanes before joining Georgia ahead of his senior season.
The four-star transfer began to make his presence felt early last season, catching a touchdown pass in each of the first two games. But an arrest before the sixth game of the season held Young out the remainder of the year.
According to Smart on Tuesday, Young has been cleared for spring practice. He previously plead no contest to a disorderly conduct charge and has been granted another season of eligibility following the Diego Pavia ruling.
"Colbie's with us," Smart said in a press conference. "Colbie's going to be practicing with us. He's cleared, so he's practicing. He's been working out with us."
The Binghamton, New York, native has 90 career-receptions for 1,079 yards with 12 touchdowns in 27 games.
Young will be a familiar face within on offense that has undergone major changes.
Redshirt junior Gunner Stockton is expected to take over at quarterback following the transfer of Carson Beck to Miami. The Bulldogs also lost four starters along the offensive line, the starting running back in Trevor Etienne and two starting receivers.
Smart and Co. have managed similar challenges before, though, and the Bulldogs have signed nine consecutive top-five recruiting classes. The talent should be there to contend for a back-to-back SEC championship and College Football Playoff spot.
Georgia's spring game will be held on April 12. The 2025 season will open at home against Marshall on Aug. 30.
