Georgia State-Charlotte game postponed due to COVID-19

The Charlotte 49ers football team will remain idle for at least a second consecutive week.

Friday afternoon, Charlotte and the Georgia State Panthers announced that Saturday's game between the programs is postponed due to confirmed coronavirus cases and subsequent quarantines.

The official Georgia State statement reads:

Out of an abundance of caution, Georgia State has postponed its Saturday game at Charlotte due to COVID positive tests and contact tracing.

The teams were scheduled to play at Charlotte's Jerry Richardson Stadium Saturday at noon on ESPNU.

It is not yet been determined when the game could be rescheduled.

Georgia State is scheduled to host East Carolina Oct. 3 at noon at Center Parc Stadium.

Meanwhile, Charlotte director of athletics Mike Hill told the team's official website:

"We are obviously disappointed for our team but certainly respect Georgia State's decision and look forward to starting league play next weekend at FAU."

Charlotte canceled last weekend's game against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sept. 17 after at least three Charlotte players tested positive for the virus and multiple offensive linemen were forced to enter into required quarantine periods.

Georgia State and Charlotte both hold 0-1 records heading into their Oct. 3 contests that remain on their schedules as of Friday.
