Georgia Update Drops on Competition for New Starting Quarterback

One of the biggest questions for the Georgia Bulldogs this offseason is how the program replaces departed quarterback Carson Beck. On Friday, the Bulldogs received a very positive update to potentially answering that question.

On3's Jake Rowe reported quarterbacks Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi are both progressing well this spring, with Stockton emerging as the favorite to win the starting job.

"I’m told that Thursday was another good day for the offense. Again, Stockton was sharp and did a nice job pushing the football downfield," wrote Rowe.

"Ryan Puglisi has also improved throughout this spring. He has repped this offense so much more this spring than he did during the fall and he’s starting to gain some momentum, too."

Rowe added that Puglisi has "taken some time" to "settle in" and begin processing better in the pocket. But despite that and the fact Stockton remains the favorite to win the starting job, the competition is far from done.

"I expect Stockton to win the job, but I also get the fairly strong impression that Puglisi is progressing fast enough to push him," wrote Rowe.

Due to a Beck injury, Stockton played during the second half of the SEC Championship Game and started Georgia's playoff game last season. In his playoff start versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Stockton completed 20 of 32 passes for 234 yards with a touchdown.

Puglisi, a four-star quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, has yet to appear in a game at Georgia.
