It's not the normal season opener for Georgia.
Last year it drop-kicked Clemson, it destroyed Oregon in 2022, and pushed by the Ducks in 2021. This year, there's no sweat game until late in the non-conference schedule with Austin Peay next and Charlotte down the road before closing at Georgia Tech.
It shouldn't have too much of a problem with a totally rebuilt Marshall team that's a mere shadow of its Sun Belt conference champion self. New head coach Tony Gibson has had to piece it all together, but there should be a decent running game early to bring a wee bit of a fight.

The Thundering Herd will be more like the Lightning Herd.
The offense will go fast, it'll try to spread everyone out, and it'll try to do what Rich Rodriguez put together at Jacksonville State, before he headed back to West Virginia.
It's just the type of quirky curveball attack that should lessen the massive physical advantage the Bulldogs bring, and it's all helped by a positive of an offensive line that has the bulk to hold up a bit. But ...
Marshall is totally starting over.
Former head coach Charles Huff took his talents, and several key players, to Southern Miss, and now the Thundering Herd are hitting the field with at least 18 transfers expected to go among the starting 22.
This game is about one thing for Georgia: Get Gunner Stockton and the downfield passing game going. The Dawgs went out and got a few explosive receivers, the Marshall secondary is piecing it all together, and this needs to be a target-practice game.
There won't be any problems for the Bulldogs.
The defense should overwhelm the Marshall offense early on, and the offense will look the part after a quarter of getting up to speed.
In general, Georgia tends to shut it down late against inferior opponents. Don't expect an obnoxious number to be put on the board, but it'll be a blowout after a few drives.
