Georgia's Kirby Smart: Oregon HC Dan Lanning 'knows we have better players'

The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs opened their 2022 campaign with a 49-3 drubbing of the No. 11 Oregon Ducks on Saturday.

The defending National Champions went head-to-head against former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, who is in his first season as head coach at Oregon.

After the game, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart praised his former assistant while also getting in a friendly jab.

"He's going to do a really good job at Oregon," Smart told reporters after the game. "He's relentless. They'll bounce back from this and he knows we have better players. He'll never say that, but he knows we've got better players."

Georgia held a slim 7-0 lead after the first quarter but got going before halftime, taking a 28-3 advantage into the break. It was all Bulldogs in the second half, as they outscored the Ducks 21-0 en route to the blowout victory.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett finished the day 25-of-31 for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Kenny McIntosh hauled in a team-high nine catches for 117 yards, adding 18 rushing yards on five carries with a touchdown.

Georgia looks to improve to 2-0 on the season next Saturday when they host Samford.
