Gordon highlights Auburn’s biggest problem on offense

Auburn's offense has left a lot to be desired this season, and there are plenty of areas where the Tigers need to improve at.

The Tigers' offensive coordinator Joel Gordon feels all the Tigers' problems on offense boil down to the lack of execution by the unit as a whole on a consistent basis.

"As much as anything, what we see is when there are 11 guys doing their job, it doesn’t matter what the scheme is, we've had an opportunity to execute against everybody that we’ve played," Gordon said. "Where we're falling short is breakdowns. There's not enough consistency from one play to the next, regardless of scheme, in execution. I think what you’ve seen consistently throughout the whole season is, and we’ve talked about it before, when we're able to execute enough on first down or second down to get a drive started, we've had a chance to be a pretty good offense. (It's still) not some offense that's been incredible, but when we can get out of our own way and not have pre-snap penalties, when you look at trends that hurt us, blocking at the point of attack and pre-snap penalties have hurt us as much as anything. When we stay away from those things we’ve had a chance to get drives going and score points, but the opposite is I think we know what that looks like.”

Gordon feels this lack of consistency has impacted the way he calls plays from week-to-week.

"“It's been a little bit different by game, to be honest with you," Gordon told reporters. "The trends in every game have been a little bit different. There are weeks where we've been really good at running the ball and this scheme has been really good, and then you turn around and you try to run something similar the next week and it wasn’t very good at all. I think what we found was there hasn’t been one thing that has just been off the charts good. We've been inconsistent. At times, we've been good in the pass game, we’ve been good in the run game, and what those schemes are is specific to week-to-week."

Auburn will look to be more efficient on offense against Georgia on Saturday.
