First-year University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders revealed Monday just how confident the Buffaloes were ahead of their season-opening win against No. 17 TCU.

“Before we left Boulder, we knew we were going to win. There was no thinking, it’s our natural odor. We prepare for this stuff, it’s not my imagination.” pic.twitter.com/7EXf1aaiRF
Though Colorado was tasked with facing last year's national runner-up on the road, Sanders's words aren't surprising. Dating back to his days playing with Florida State and then his Hall of Fame NFL career, "Prime Time" has always been one of the most outspoken football characters and has never lacked confidence.
The Buffaloes' 45-42 shootout victory over the Horned Frogs was not only one of the most discussed games on Saturday, but among the most hyped Division I college football games of the young season thus far.
Coach Prime spent the last three years as the leader at Jackson State before being hired by Colorado in December.
The Buffaloes were just 1-11 during the 2022 campaign and finished last in the nation in points allowed per game (44.5) and 127th in points scored per contest (15.4). Since going 10-4 in 2016, Colorado's only winning season came in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign when it finished 4-2.
Saturday's win wasn't exactly a defensive clinic for Sanders's crew, but the Buffaloes were facing a program that finished ninth in the nation last season in offense (38.8 points per game).
They will have their first home game of the Coach Prime era at noon on Saturday against Nebraska (0-1).
