Head Coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers may have just found their ultimate mismatch offensive weapon

Over the years, head coach Josh Heupel has put a lot of outstanding offenses together for the Tennessee Volunteers . That has included a long list of impressive playmakers, including runnings backs Jaylen Wright and Dylan Sampson, and wide receivers Jalin Hyatt, Dont’e Thornton, and Bru McCoy.

Quarterbacks such as Hendon Hooker, Joe Milton, and Nico Iamaleava have had a lot of offensive talent to work with the last few seasons.

Don’t look now, but the Volunteers may have just gotten a commitment from one of the more interesting and diverse offensive weapons in recent memory. It was announced over the weekend that 2026 Forney (Texas) North athlete Legend Bey chose Tennessee over finalists Texas A&M and Duke.

Bey plays quarterback for North Forney, and is a dynamic dual threat player. As a junior, he managed to throw for 1,445 yards and 13 touchdowns. His real impact came on the ground, where Bey was electric. The 5-11, 180-pound athlete rushed for 1,912 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging an absurd 11.7 yards per carry.

When you watch the highlights for Bey, it’s obvious that he is going to have to find a home at a different position other than quarterback. That is most likely a reason for his current recruiting rankings, which are a bit all over the place.

Rivals has Bey rated as a four-star recruit in the 2026 class. On that ranking, Bey currently sits as the No. 206 overall player, No. 12 athlete, and No. 30 player in the state of Texas in the class. He is rated as a three-star player on the 247Sports Composite ranking, sitting as the No. 451 overall player, and No. 28 athlete nationally.

The Texas star chose Tennessee over a long list of potential suitors. Some of the top offers that Bey holds includes the Volunteers, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Michigan State, Missouri, SMU, TCU, Utah, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Colorado, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Boston College, Houston, Memphis, Baylor, Duke, Cal, and Cincinnati among several others.

What positon is Bey going to end up playing? Is he a running back or wide receiver? Is Coach Heupel going to let him run some wildcat quarterback? Is Bey going to return punts?

That is the fun part of this game, and this projection. Bey is the type of athlete that can do almost anything he wants on a football field. The only thing that could limit him is a lack of imagination.
