Highly Touted Star May Have Change of Heart on Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs have long been considered the frontrunners for Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings. Known for producing elite offensive line talent, Georgia seemed like the perfect landing spot for the 6-foot-7.5, 305-pound tackle. Cantwell has visited Athens six times and recently had a strong final trip, connecting again with head coach Kirby Smart, OL coach Stacy Searels, and OC Mike Bobo.

Cantwell initially set April 28 as his commitment date, and at that time, he was trending toward Miami Hurricanes. Then Georgia surged ahead, especially after giving him the final visit before his decision.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong noted, “Georgia has built momentum and got the last visit.” Chad Simmons echoed the sentiment, leaning Georgia’s way but added, “This one has gotten a little more interesting late.”

Now, as his Tuesday announcement nears, there’s growing buzz that Cantwell could flip to Miami. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Hurricanes’ NIL offer remains 'exciting,' and Cantwell’s camp is still combing through the details.

A source shared that Cantwell sees Miami’s Alex Mirabal as “the best offensive line coach in the country,” and the Cristobal-Mirabal duo has a proven track record of producing first-round OL talent.

Oregon Ducks has also made a final push with a visit on Monday, but Georgia and Miami appear to be the main contenders. While sources in Coral Gables suggest Miami is exploring other options, the race isn’t over. As Wiltfong cautioned, “Miami has come on strong with another late offer on the NIL side as well. This could go a few different ways.”

Georgia still holds the edge, but don’t be shocked if Cantwell throws up for Miami.
