The 2025 Heisman Trophy voters saw Mendoza completely take control late in the season when he was able to throw a last-minute touchdown against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Diego Pavia was able to make it a bit of a race with his dominant five-touchdown performance against the Kentucky Wildcats. However, the voters seemingly got it right as Mendoza was able to lead the Hoosiers to an undefeated record and was the favorite to win the award. He becomes the first Indiana player to ever win the award.
