A college football halftime, which often features the marching band of the home team, lasts a maximum of 20 minutes. Halftime events sometimes include on-field ceremonies, such as the induction of former student-athletes into a school's hall of fame.
Before the 2017 season, the National Football Foundation set the limit for a college football halftime at 20 minutes. Schools may make halftime shorter, but they can't make it longer.
“The hope is that these steps will halt the trend for longer game times,” a National Football Foundation official said.
In the NFL, halftime generally lasts 12 minutes. Halftimes that include musical performances may last slightly longer. The Super Bowl, for example, has a halftime period that can last anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.
