How SEC Foes Performed in Week 4
Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

For what seems like the first time this season, Texas looked far from one of the worst teams in the SEC this week as it crushed Sam Houston 55-0 on Saturday night, and the Longhorns will now head into a bye week.

As four other SEC teams suffered a loss in Week 4, it’s time to take a look at how the Longhorns’ conference foes fared. Here’s how every SEC team that Texas will face performed in Week 3, along with who ESPN’s analytics now favor.

Florida

Result: 26-7 loss to No. 2 Miami

How: It was a defensive battle for the most part, but even though quarterback DJ Lagway was able to ensure he didn’t throw any interceptions after throwing five in the previous game, it didn’t matter as he was unable to throw for more than 100 yards. The Gators were also unable to get the ground game going, only recording 80 total rushing yards.

No. 7 Oklahoma

Result: 24-17 win over Auburn

How: Sooners quarterback John Mateer was the difference maker for his team, as Oklahoma could not manage more than 32 rushing yards. However, Oklahoma did get away with a major penalty that led to a touchdown, and a public reprimand of the refs.

Kentucky

Bye week

Mississippi State

Result: 38-10 win over Northern Illinois

How: It was a slow start for the Bulldogs, who only led the Huskies by four points at halftime. However, with the help of running back Fluff Bothwell and the other backs, the 292 yards on the ground propelled Mississippi State into the lead in the second half.

Chance to beat Texas: 21%

No. 18 Vanderbilt

Result: 70-21 win over Georgia State

How: It was a dominating performance from start to finish, mostly in the hands of quarterback Diego Pavia, who accumulated 331 total yards and two touchdowns, even with three other quarterbacks getting time on the field.

Chance to beat Texas: 27.7%

No. 5 Georgia

Bye week

Arkansas

Result: 32-31 loss to Memphis

How: Considering that the Tigers may actually have a pretty decent team this year, the Razorbacks’ offense couldn’t have done much more behind Taylen Green, who threw for 325 yards, while there were also 175 yards recorded on the ground. A mix of bad time management and poor defensive play lost Arkansas the game.

Chance to beat Texas: 20.2%

No. 9 Texas A&M

Bye week
