Huge Ryder Lyons And USC Trojans Update
Syndication: Ventura County Star JOE LUMAYA/SPECIAL TO THE STAR / USA TODAY NETWORK

5-Star California quarterback Ryder Lyons is one of the top prospects in the entire 2026 cycle. He was scheduled to have his official visit with the USC Trojans this month, but that visit has now been canceled.

According to Brandon Huffman of 247 Sports:

“The five-star canceled his upcoming visit with the Trojans, and it doesn’t appear that USC will end up with an official this spring — if at all.”

For those who have been following us, this is not surprising. Just last week, it was reported that the Trojans had asked Lyons to move his official visit to the fall, and that they had honed in on QB Peyton Houston for their top 2027 quarterback.

USC Trojans Out On Ryder Lyons?

Lyons has been seen for quite some time as somewhat of a lock to end up with Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans.

While his brother, Walker Lyons, is a tight end for USC, that aspect was always a bit overblown, but his relationship with Riley and connection to the program were strong.

However, a large NIL ask and an unwillingness to commit after several visits may have caused the Trojans to shift focus and move on.

There is still a strong chance that Lyons schedules and OV in the fall, but that will depend on how his OVs to Oregon and BYU go.

BREAKING: USC Trojans Ink New Partnership That Will Have Massive NIL Implications

Oregon is the obvious favorite now, and most platforms had them in the lead even before he canceled his visit to USC.

The Ducks lost 4-star QB Jonas Williams when he flipped to USC, and they missed out on the No. 1 QB in the class, Jared Curtis, to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. At this point, it feels like they will do whatever and pay whatever to land the services of Lyons.

However, BYU is a very strong player for Lyons. They hold his last OV on the weekend of June 20th. The obvious ties to his faith are a factor as well. Couple that with the fact that BYU plays in a very winnable Big 12 conference with a direct path to the CFP, and they have the makings of a real contender.

Personally, I would actually put BYU slightly ahead of Oregon, but we will see how the visits go.

For now, it appears that the USC Trojans have moved on from Ryder Lyons, but we still have over six months until signing day. A lot can change from now until then.
