Sophomore defensive back Boo Carter was dismissed from the Tennessee Vols football team this past Sunday.

The move came after Carter failed to show up for Tennessee's homecoming game against New Mexico State last weekend.

According to ESPN, Carter didn't show up for the game after he was informed that he wouldn't be playing against the Aggies.

Carter, who says his season was cut short due to injury, will enter the NCAA transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

College football insider details the next steps in former Tennessee Vols DB Boo Carter's transfer decision

On3's Steve Wiltfong appeared on the Rivals YouTube channel on Tuesday and he detailed the next steps in Carter's college football career.

Wiltfong noted that Carter is expected to take only one or two visits before "quickly" making a transfer decision.

"Some programs that I believe they're (the Boo Carter camp) expecting mutual interest from when his transfer portal takes off [are] Texas Tech, Nebraska, Miami, Louisville, Kentucky, Alabama, and Texas A&M [are] some of the programs mentioned," said Wiltfong. "He's going to take one to two visits before quickly locking in his future and starting his next chapter.

"Boo Carter is a very talented guy that made some big plays during his career at Tennessee. He was also a factor on special teams. We'll see what a fresh start somewhere else with a new coaching staff can do for him. But I do think he'll be very coveted out of the transfer portal."

Carter is a tremendously talented player. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out between him and the Vols on Rocky Top.
