Deion Sanders kept his plans mum on the biggest offseason question the Colorado Buffaloes face this summer. The Buffaloes have yet to name Shedeur Sanders’ replacement as the starting quarterback before their season opener when they host Georgia Tech at Folsom Field on Aug. 29.
The Buffaloes will have to decide between Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter or true freshman Julian Lewis.
During his press conference for the Big 12 Media Day at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Sanders wouldn’t name a starter.
“We brought both of them because I don’t know which one is going to start,” Sanders said via On3.
Per 24/7 Sports, Lewis entered college as a five-star athlete. Salter is coming off a season where he threw for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2023.
Sanders believes Colorado could have a dual-quarterback system for the upcoming season.
“Yeah. Long as they’re doing their jobs and we’re winning,” Sanders said. “We definitely want to continue to develop JuJu, but Kaidon is unbelievable. Kaidon is off the chain. He’s been there, done that, he can get the job done. I wouldn’t have brought him here if I didn’t trust him.
“But JuJu is coming around the mountain when he comes. And I love him, I love what he brings to the table. I don’t know how it’s going to play out, as long as it plays out. We can’t lose either way, with either of those two.”
Shedeur, a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 season in 2024. He’s in a similar situation in Cleveland, as the Browns figure out who will start in the upcoming season.
However, unlike with Colorado this summer, there will be a loser in that race.
