'I think that was a really good transfer portal get for Tennessee' - Vols insider is high on a new addition for UT football

The Tennessee Vols weren't super active in the transfer market this offseason, adding just seven players to the roster via the portal.

Tennessee, as has typically been the case under Josh Heupel, was very judicious in their usage of the portal. The Vols prefer to only take transfers at obvious positions of need (who are also considered great culture fits for the program).

One of the players the Vols added during the winter transfer window was Arizona offensive lineman Wendell Moe.

Moe is expected to start at left guard for Tennessee this fall. And he's a player that VolQuest's Brent Hubbs thinks could be a huge contributor for the Volunteers in 2025.

"I just feel a little better about that offensive line," said Hubbs on Thursday during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone. "I think (true freshman) David Sanders is going to have some growing pains, but he's going to be a good player. I love Wendell Moe, I do. I think Wendell Moe is going to be a really good player. I think that was a really good transfer portal get for Tennessee. I think he's going to be an anchor for them at guard inside. I love his physicality."

Hubbs isn't the only prominent college football voice that has pointed out Moe this week.

SEC Network's Cole Cubelic described Moe as a "tone setter" this week on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.

"I do like Wendell Moe that [Tennessee] got from Arizona," said Cubelic. "I think he's a good player and a bit of a tone setter guy that you need."

If Tennessee is going to return to the College Football Playoff in 2025, they'll need their offensive line to play at a high level. Tennessee has plenty of talent along the offensive line, but it'll be the first time that these five players (Moe, Sanders, Lance Heard, Notre Dame transfer Same Pendleton, and whoever wins the center job) have played together. The talent is there, but they have to prove they can be an elite unit as a group.
