Indiana head coach Tom Allen details why Buckeyes' Chase Young is so effective

2020 NFL Draft prospect Chase Young terrorized opposing defenses as a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes defense from 2017-19.

Young has decided to forego his senior season at Ohio State and declare for the draft, and Indiana Hoosiers head coach Tom Allen won't miss seeing him on the college football field every season.

"Gosh, everything we try to do, he seems to defeat us," Allen said, according to Adam Rittenberg and Tom VanHaaren. "It's like in an action movie. You have a plan to take care of this thing you can't destroy, you think you have him, and then, boom, he comes right through the flames."

But what makes him so effective and so scary to compete against? Allen noted it's his physicality level.

"He was so well proportioned physically. He kind of reminded me in that regard of Shawne Merriman. When you see him, that's the only other guy I've seen in person that looked like that. He has that freaky ... if you take that 6-2, perfect-build linebacker and you just stretch that out to 6-foot-6, that's what he looked like. There aren't many out there; there really aren't."

Through three years at Ohio State, Young tallied 30.5 sacks, 68 solo tackles and eight forced fumbles.

The defensive end could go as high as No. 2 in the draft and really isn't expected to drop lower than pick No. 3 or 4.

With his physicality and strength, it's not surprising he's expected to go so high in the draft. Washington, who owns the second overall pick, could really use him, and so could the Detroit Lions at No. 3.
