Indiana WR costs team win with heartbreaking mistake

The Indiana Hoosiers saw their 22-game win streak come to an end on Saturday in just about the most painful possible way.

Indiana wide receiver Nick Marsh narrowly stepped out of bounds while making what would have been the game-winning touchdown catch during Saturday’s 19-15 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, In. The Hoosiers were facing a decisive 4th and 4 with just over a minute left, and they appeared to have pulled off the perfect play as quarterback Josh Hoover found Marsh streaking into the end zone wide open.

For a moment, it looked like Marsh had made the catch, but it was not to be.

Replays showed that Marsh’s left foot never actually came down in bounds once he’d made the catch.

Essentially, the Hoosiers lost by literal inches. The play would have been a touchdown had Marsh’s foot come down virtually any further to the right than it actually did.

Saturday’s loss was the first of the season for Indiana, but it should not significantly impact their campaign. They remain one of the best teams in the sport, and this loss was about as narrow as one could possibly get. In fact, had they not cost themselves with some uncharacteristic errors, they might have pulled out a victory.
