Insider Reveals Head-Turning Prediction for Red Raiders Football in 2025

The program boasted the top transfer class in the country according to On3, and that should prove to be a huge boost for McGuire and the program, as well as the two new coordinators on staff.

Athlon Sports recently previewed the 2025 possibilities of each Big 12 school, because, well, it's never too early, I guess. And the Red Raiders come in at No. 5.

5. Texas Tech

"With one of the nation's top transfer classes arriving in Lubbock, the Red Raiders are a sleeper team in the Big 12 title mix. Quarterback Behren Morton's recovery from offseason shoulder surgery is a storyline to watch in spring practice, and the offense must replace standout running back Tahj Brooks. Coach Joey McGuire's hire of Shiel Wood as the team's defensive coordinator was one of the top assistant moves of the offseason."

While Tech rounds out the top 5, the others included are 1. Arizona State, 2. Kansas State, 3. BYU and 4. Iowa State.

Perhaps the most important position to watch out for this offseason into spring ball will be running back. The program's all-time career-leading rusher, Tahj Brooks, declared for the NFL and has some pretty big cleats to fill. 

Then there's the shoulder of Morton. We'll need to see the same zip on the ball he showed before the injury.

Tech announced its spring practice schedule on Friday, and the first session will be March 10.
